For music composition on a computer, yes. Some might argue that the PC isn'ta 'proper' tool for making music - I work for a recording studio and I've used the Mac about 4 times in 3 months..... Work for a recording studio? But cant install a soundcard? Hmmm.. What do u do there, make the tea ?

I realize your Backup software isn't working, but you may still be able to rescue the actual files by copying them to another media.
